Description
The Project Management, Applied workshop is designed to specifically apply the concepts, principles, and practices of effective project management learned in the Concepts and Principles Workshop.
The workshop covers the following topics:
• Work Breakdown Structures
• Cost Estimation Principles and Techniques
• Earned Value Management
• Scheduling
• Gantt Charts, PERT Charts, and Critical Path
• Project Planning, Tracking, and Oversight
• Risk Management
• Customer Interface Plan
Small breakout groups participate in planned exercises to solidify workshop concepts.
At the Conclusion... The participants should have a plan that: |
| • | Identifies project requirements |
| • | Has a project WBS |
| • | Has a schedule, budget, and resource plan |
| • | Identifies Earned Value criteria |
| • | Identifies project risks, including a plan for risk mitigation |
| • | Identifies specific customer interface activities |
| Associated Activities and Deliverables |
| • | In order to maximize the benefit to the organization, various auxiliary activities are performed ancillary to the workshop. |
| • | Pre-Workshop Interviews: One of the differences between this workshop and others is this is NOT a public course. It is customized to the needs of the organization. Through pre workshop interviews of the participants, the proper level of detail is determined. These interviews are conducted after the Concepts & Principles workshop approximately 2 weeks before delivery of this workshop. |
| • | Workshop Tailoring: From the data gathered during the interviews, the course content is tailored. Through this process, the participants are not taught what they already know but are given the appropriate level of detail. |
| • | Executive Out-Brief: At the conclusion of the workshop the instructors meet with the senior executives to discuss the results of the workshop, to review any issues or concerns raised in the workshop, and to discuss the role of senior leadership in implementing effective project management practices into the organization. |
Prerequisites Participants should have completed the Project Management, Concepts and Principles Workshop or equivalent.
